Unit 5 PREHISTORY

1. THE STONE AGE

   • PALEOLITHIC
     • It started 2 500 000 years ago. It finished about 10.000 years ago.
     • People were nomadic
     • They hunted and fished. They used animal SKINS (FUR) to make clothes.
     • They discovered how to make FIRE
     • They lived in caves or huts.
     • They made tools of stone, wood and animal bones.
     • There were four types of humans: HOMO SAPIENS (most recent)
   • NEOLITHIC
     • It started about 10.000 years ago. It ended about 7.000 years ago.
     • People discovered how to cultivate seeds -> the beginning of AGRICULTURE.
     • They cultivated crops and raised animals.
     • People became SEDENTARY.
     • They lived in huts in VILLAGES.
     • People started to exchange products. This is the beginning of TRADE.
     • Some people were artisans others were farmers.
     • They started WEAVING clothes

2. THE BRONZE AND IRON AGE

   • It started about 7.000 years ago. It ended about 5.000 years ago.
   • People discovered how to make objects from METAL.
     • cooper
     • bronze
     • iron
   • They melted metal to make tools, jewellery and weapons.
   • Villages got BIGGER and had WALLS to defend them.
   • They invented the WHEEL. They could transport things more easily.
   • People worked as farmers, artisans, metalworkers, soldiers and traders.
   • The CELTS lived in the north and the west of the Iberian Peninsula.
   • The IBERIANS lived in the south and east of the Iberian Peninsuila
     • They made sculptures from stone
       • MEGALITHS large stone monuments

3. It started when humans first appeared and started to use tools. It ended when people invented writing.
