Atom, electronic configuration and periodic table

  1. Main Conclusion

    • Atoms are the foundation of all matter in the universe. By studying their structure, the periodic table, and the origin of the elements, we can understand how stars create the materials that make up planets and living beings.
  2. Periodic Table

    • The periodic table organizes elements by increasing atomic number. Elements in the same group have similar properties because they have the same number of valence electrons.
      • The importance of the periodic table helps scientists predict the behavior of elements, understand chemical reactions, and discover relationships between different substances.
  3. ATOMS

    • Atoms are the smallest units of matter that keep the properties of an element. Everything around us, including living things, water, air, and stars, is made of atoms.
      • Understanding atoms helps us explain how matter is formed and how chemical reactions happen.
  4. Structure of the Atom

    • Protons
      • Protons are positively charged particles found in the nucleus of the atom. The number of protons determines the atomic number and identifies which element the atom belongs to.
    • Neutrons
      • Neutrons are neutral particles located in the nucleus. They help stabilize the atom and explain why some elements have different isotopes.
    • Electrons
      • Electrons are negatively charged particles that move around the nucleus. They participate in chemical reactions and allow atoms to form chemical bonds.
  5. Chemical Elements

    • A chemical element is a pure substance made of only one type of atom. Every element has its own symbol, atomic number, and unique physical and chemical properties.
      • Fro example some common elements are Hydrogen, Oxygen, Carbon, Iron, Gold, and Uranium. Each one has different uses in science, technology, medicine, and everyday life.
  6. Nuclear Processes

    • Fusion
      • Nuclear fusion joins small atoms together to create larger elements while releasing enormous amounts of energy. This process powers the Sun and all other stars.
    • Fission
      • Nuclear fission splits heavy atoms into smaller ones, releasing energy. It is used in nuclear power plants to generate electricity.
