1. The practice of moving back and fourth between two languages or two dialects

   • Example: I really like reading, بس للمتعة أما كتب دراسة لا
     • Code Switching & Social Factors
       • It takes place within a domain or a social situation, Participants solidarity and status, and it has different functions.
         • Types of code-switching
           • Situational code-switching
             • It is one type of code-switching ( components of the situation ) such as change in a setting or a topic
               • Example: Korean in restaurants.
           • Metaphorical switching
             • It is a type of code-switching where each of the codes symbolises a set of social meanings, just as using a metaphor. It requires being skillful.
               • Example: أحيانا الانسان لازم يكون صاحب قرار/ you know, sometimes you have to do ,what you have to do.
           • Linguistics Constraints
             • Intra-sentential switching
             • The equivalence constraint
             • Inter-sentential switching
             • The matrix language frame
             • Attitudes towards code-switching
               • * People usually are unaware of it.*When they notice it, they usually apologies for it in disapproval. *Attitudes towards it is negative in many countries.
