RAM, ROM AND VIRTUAL MEMORY

  1. RAM is an acronym for random access memory, a type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly; that is, any byte of memory can be accessed without touching the preceding bytes. RAM is the most common type of memory found in computers and other devices, such as printers. IT IS ALSO VOLATILE.

    • RAM is a fast temporary type of memory in which programs, applications and data are stored. Here are some examples of what's stored in RAM: the operating system applications the graphical user interface (GUI)
  2. ROM is computer memory on which data has been prerecorded. Once data has been written onto a ROM chip, it cannot be removed and can only be read.

  3. Virtual memory is a section of volatile memory created temporarily on the storage drive. It is created when a computer is running many processes at once and RAM is running low.
