Network security

  1. Decrypt

    • Decryption is the process of taking encoded or encrypted text or other data and converting it back into text that you or the computer can read
  2. Security

    • Firewall
      • a firewall is a network security system that monitors and controls the incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules.[1] A firewall typically establishes a barrier between a trusted, secure internal network and another outside network
        • Used to help protect a computer network from intruders
          • Used when program is trying to connect to another network
          • controls which programs can send and receive data packets
            • prevents harmful data entering your computer
    • Physical Security
      • Physical security is the protection of personnel, hardware, software, networks and data from physical actions and events that could cause serious loss or damage to an enterprise, agency or institution.
    • Antivrus
      • Scans the computer periodically
        • needs updating regularly to make sure it knows the latest threats
          • should be used on emails, attachments
            • Should be used when downloading new software from the internet
          • Protects against malicious software
            • Guaranties any programs or files which are harmful
    • Passwords
      • A sentence or phase you can set up to add a lock on your personal stuff
    • Encryption
      • Cypher
        • a secret or disguised way of writing a code
      • Key
        • An encryption key is a random string of bits created explicitly for scrambling and unscrambling data. Encryption keys are designed with algorithms intended to ensure that every key is unpredictable and unique.
      • the process of converting information or data into a code, especially to prevent unauthorized access
      • How do you encrypt a message
        • In message that you are composing, click File > Properties. Click Security Settings, and then select the Encrypt message contents and attachments check box. Compose your message, and then click Send.
      • every time you power your phone on, you'll need either a numeric pin or password to decrypt the device. An encrypted device is far more secure than an unencrypted one. When encrypted, the only way to get into the phone is with the encryption key
  3. data loss prevention

    • Data loss prevention software detects potential data breaches/data ex-filtration transmissions and prevents them by monitoring, detecting and blocking sensitive data while in-use
  4. VPN

    • A virtual private network (VPN) extends a private network across a public network, and enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network.
  5. Network

    • IP address
      • an IP address is used to identify a computer and its data packets
    • WAN
      • A WAN (wide area network) is a communications network that spans a large geographic area such as across cities, states, or countries. They can be private to connect parts of a business or they can be more public to connect smaller networks together.
