1. They stop full scale war. They are a deterrent from a World War
2. Having nuclear weapons enables countries to feel safe and secure
3. Getting rid of nuclear weapons is a risk as we can't trust other countries to do the same to we should stay on the safe side and keep them
4. They can be effective as it was a nuclear bomb that stopped World War two and saved the lives of all the soldiers that could have died if the war hadn't stopped
Against
1. It would be safer if there were no nuclear weapons, having them increases the risk of use
2. Nuclear bombs aren't moral, they don't fit into the just war theory as they are not proportionate weapons
3. They haven't prevented any wars as there are many wars being fought today despite all the nuclear weapons
4. Nuclear weapons are extremely expensive
5. Some countries have already given them up which shows you can be safe without them
CHRISTIANS
1. Some Christians are in favour of a unilateral disarmament - one country should get rid of its nuclear weapons without waiting for other countries
2. Other Christians are in favour of multilateral disarmament - multiple countries come together and make an agreement to destroy their nuclear weapons
