Topic 9:Techniques for Testing
Test harnesses
- used in software testing for automating the testing process.
- consists of software and test data which will run the developed programming code under different conditions and monitor its output against the output that should have been produced
Performance testing
- testing that is done to show how fast an aspect of a system performs under certain workload
Scalibility testing
- a type of performance testing focused on ensuring the application under test is able to cope with increases in workload
Volume testing
- confirms that any values that may become large over time (such as accumulated counts, logs and data files)
- can be accommodated by the program and will not cause the program to stop working or cause poor performance
- confirms that any values that may become large over time (such as accumulated counts, logs and data files)
Usability testing
- means of measuring how well people can use an ICT system or part of an ICT system
Multi-platform testing/portability testing
- Aimed at demonstrating the software can be ported to specified hardware or software platforms.
Prototyping
- involves producing working versions of the ICT system at different stages during its development
- user is given each version to test and evaluate, and any problems can be ironed out before the next improved version is produced
- quick way to incorporate feedback from real users into a design
- involves producing working versions of the ICT system at different stages during its development
