1. Maintaining your Notebook Computer

   • Overall slowness to the system
   • Program may crash and fail to open
   • The computer will require restarting

     • Update detection definitions
     • Prevent intrusions
     • Detect intrusions
     • Alerts and Notifications.

3. Updating Microsoft Windows

   • Steps to update windows update
     • 1. Click on Start, then All Programs, Windows Update..
       • 2. Click on Check for Updates.
         • 3. If new updates are found, click on Install updates.
           • 4. Windows will now download and install all necessary updates for your computer.
             • 5. Perform a Windows Update every 2 to 3 weeks.

4. Maintaining the Hard Drive

   • These are only a few of the possible problems
     • 1. To run Disk Defragmenter, click on Start I All Programs I Accessories I System Tools I Disk Defragmenter.
     • 2. If your hard drive is partitioned (you have more than one drive), choose which drive you wish to defragment. In most cases, you will select C.
     • 3. Click on the Defragment disk button to begin the operation.
     • 4. When defragmenting begins it will always analyze the hard drive first and then start the defragmentation process.

5. Maintaining the Battery

   • Most laptop batteries will last at least four hours when fully charged.
     • Condition the battery for maximum performance
       • 1. Ddischarge the battery – use the battery until the low
       • 2. Charge the battery – use the AC adapter until the battery is fully.
       • The procedure above insures both maximum performance and long life for the battery
