Managing a Domestic Project

  1. Using Organisational Charts to organise the project details such as time, costs, labour requirements and much more

    • Gantt Charts
    • Flow Charts
    • Managements Plans
      • Environmental Management
      • Waste Management
      • General Management
      • Time Management
  2. Utilization of newer and the latest management technologies available

    • Video Conferencing for members of a meeting that are unavailable to make the stated or pre-organised meetings. This also allows members to send documents in to the members of the non-virtual meeting as well as allowing the entire meeting to be held over the internet.
    • Access for all members to update via a virtual interface changes to the worksite and checking off deliveries etc as the happen. This could allow for fine tuning on the go or also allows for the close following of operations on site while away.
  3. Using meetings to organise the timing of labourers, contractors and materials. This can be performed on a weekly or daily basis dependant on the project at hand.

    • Ordering Materials so they are a 'Just in Time' schedule. This helps to avoid confusion on timing, mistakes with wrong products and helps to the plans to budget.
    • Using multiple means of contact through media outside of the site and outside of timed meetings. This can ensure further that timing issues and building mistakes are avoided.
      • Emails
      • Phone Calls
      • Fax
      • Social Media
      • Off-Site meetings
  4. Cross Checking/Double Checking with employed Professionals

    • Checking all Cost Plans with the quantity surveyor.
    • Checking all structural plans with the Building Surveyor
    • Checking all Documentation for site with the respective council members.
  5. Ensuring that all documentation is collated and prepared before its is needed for the relevant sections of the project and the building surveyor has checked them.

  6. The Pre-employment of contractors and labourers for jobs onsite, this will ensure that all members are aware of the times and dates needed so no short staffing or confusion can take place during the construction phase.
