Layers of the Earth
1. The Earth is made up of 4 different layers: the crust, the mantle, the outer core, and the inner core
Geological Time Scale
2. This is a system of chronological dating that relates stratigraphy (geological strata) to time. This time scale is used by geologists, paleontologists, and other Earth scientists to describe the timing and relationships of events that had occurred during Earth’s history.

1. 4-3.8 billion years ago a time occurred where asteroid bombardment hit all of the planets

    1. This is a process where geologists find out the actual date, date range or exact year. It is used to date the rocks and material to see when the material was formed.
  3. The science of determining the order of past events, such as the age of an object.
2. Stratigraphy is a branch of geology that works with the order and position of strata, as well as the relationship to the geological time scale.
3. Fossil Record
  2. This is the history of life presented through fossils, found in sedimentary rock.
