    1. An operating system is a low-level software that supports a computers function, such as schueduling tasks.
    2. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF AN OPERATING SYSTEM?
      1. Its an essential componet of the system software in a computer system. Application programs usually require an operating system to function.
      2. WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON OPERATING SYSTEMS?
        1. Windows, Apple, Linux and Ubuntu
        2. FUNCTIONS
          1. Provides a user interface
            1. Booting the computer
              1. Managing the hardware and software
                1. File managment
                2. WHAT IS GUI?
                  1. Stands for graphical user interface. It allows users to interact with electronic devices through graphical icons and visual indicators.
                    1. Advantages:
                      1. It can be user friendly
                        1. It can be more attractive for non-technical people
                          1. It looks more professional
                          2. Disadvantages:
                            1. When it is not properly built, it can be difficult to work with
                              1. Requires more memory resource than a non-graphical one
                                1. Might require installation of additional software (e.g. running time)
                              2. WHAT IS A CLI?
                                1. Was the primary means of interaction with most computer systems until the introduction of the video display terminal in the mid-1960s
                                  1. Advantages:
                                    1. Needs much less memory (RAM) in order to use it than other user interfaces
                                      1. Uses less CPU processing time compared to others
                                        1. Doesn't require Windows to run
                                        2. Disadvantages:
                                          1. Can be confusing for someone who has never used it before
                                            1. Commands have to be types precisely; if there is a spelling error the command will fail
