System architectures
The CPU is the brains of the computer. It processes all of the data and instructions that make the system work.
- The purpose of the CPU is to: Control the movement of data and instructions. Fetch data and instructions from memory. Decode and execute instructions. Perform arithmetic operations such as add and subtract and logical operations such as AND, NOT, OR.
- The performance of the CPU depends on the processor speed, bus speed, amount of cache available, number of processor cores.
