Keywords for unit 2.2
Input - Inputting something which should have an output
Output is something caused by the input
Example of assignment operator is =
Pseudocode :Any information that a program makes use of, e.g. user's age
Flowchart: : Any piece of code or in most flowchart blocks, you can recognise words that represent variables and constants.
Variables and constants both run data . Variables will return a value which can be changed. Whereas constants bring back a value which cannot be changed while the program is running.
Parameters: Inputs come from the console, from a file, or from elsewhere in a modular program – then they are known as “parameters”.
VARIABLES
Arithmetic: + - / *
String: slicing, length, format
Boolean: AND, OR, NOT, larger, smaller, equal, not equal
OPERATORS
Sequence: Sequencing allows a programmer to solve complex tasks through a number of simple steps
Effective Sequence: it gets the job done but it is inefficient, as we can spot sub-sequences – repeats of a number of steps in the same order.
SEQUENCE
Selection: Selection changes the flow of a program, depending on a set of conditions, it is used for validation, calculation and making sense of a user’s choices.
IF - Means selection.
Nested: we can only evaluate a condition if some pre-condition is met. We would need two selection statements, one inside the other.
The “outside” selection is the pre-condition, while the “inside” selection is the condition.
SELECTION
Counters: Counters are integers
While: These loops evaluate a Boolean condition every time they run (either in the beginning or the end of an iteration) and if it is true – they carry on, otherwise, the loop stops.
that counter-controlled loops are essentially condition-controlled loops which have been simplified. Any counter-controlled loop can be implemented with a condition-controlled loop.
Nested Loops: are used for iterating 2D arrays or generating complex sequencing.
ITERATION
EOL: End of File – a condition for the while loop to stop reading the file’s lines.
EOL: End of Line delimiter, usually a LineFeed (ASCII13)
Overwriting: write the modified array to the same file, overwriting its original data.
FILE HANDLING
SQL: Sequence Query Language (Select From Where)
Searching and reading at once is accomplished through the SELECT statement.
SQL is not case sensitive but using capital letters for SQL keywords like SELECT helps separate keywords from names and criteria.
SQL
Arrays can be 2D . This includes of rows and columns.
- Or 1 dimensional. Like just a row or column
