2.5 Translators and IDEs V2
Machine Code
- An instruction that can run inside the CPU is called machine code and is in binary.
- Very hard to code in, and very time consuming
Assembly Language
- Low level language, because it's almost the same as machine code
- The complete set of commands is called the instruction set of the CPU
- Consists of a set of mnemonic instructions
High Level Language
- Has a set of keywords such as PRINT of IF
- It has a set of grammar rules called syntax
- Programmers write source code
Translators
- Converts programming language into machine code
- Three types: Assembler, Compiler and Interpreter
Assemblers
- Convert assembly code into machine code
- Different CPUs will need different assemblers
- difficult to write in but still easier than machine code
- used in fast execution
- required when there is limited memory or file size
Compliers
- Converts all source code into machine language
- in one go
- Outputs an executable program
- error reports created with object code
- Converts all source code into machine language
IDE
- Brings all the tools necessary to code into one application
- Tools in the IDE are: Project manager, code editor, run-time environment, debugger and translator
- integrated development environment
Interpreters
- translate and execute source code, and execute line by line
- Lot slower than complier
- checked for syntax errors
- if incorrect the interpreting is stopped
