Reliability is how reliable a computer is.
- As we become more dependant on computers we begin to rely on them more.
Standards help with the reliability of computers.
PROPRIETARY standards are owned by a company. It looks familiar to users and is predictable. It is maintained by one company.
INDUSTRY standards are agreed standards across the computing industry.
DE FACTO standards have been developed through usage. They are the ones which you HAVE to use in order to do things.
OPEN standards are publicly available. They are open to be edited by anyone who wants to. They are high quality but there is no one to blame when things go wrong.
