   • Emitted as light
   • Down
   • Light observed has specific frequencies due to the definite differences in energy between the excited energy level and the ground state to which they fall
   • Coloured on black

2. ABSORBTION

   • When electrons are excited and are promoted to higher energy levels
   • Black on couloured
   • Light is absorbed
   • Up
