    1. Double stranded DNA, enveloped
      1. Herpes Simplex (1+2)
        1. HSV 2 = genital
          1. HSV 1 = oral
            1. Primary Herpetic gingivostomatitis
              1. Onset = <5yrs or 20s
                1. Clinical features
                  1. Fever, malaise, poor appetite
                    1. Bilateral cervical lymphadenopathy
                      1. Oral
                        1. Gingivitis (boggy, swelling) esp. anteriorly
                          1. Stomatitis
                            1. Most common = lips
                              1. Vesicles -> small, painful ulcers
                                1. May be widespread
                                  1. Gingiva, palate, mucosa
                            2. Management
                              1. Soft diet, fluids
                                1. Chx MW
                                  1. Acyclovir - oral, 200mg 5xday
                                    1. Paracetamol
                                  2. Reactivation
                                    1. Herpes labialis = most common
                                      1. = cold sore
                                        1. Lip lesion
                                          1. Unilateral
                                            1. Macule -> vesicle -> crusted scab/ulcer
                                            2. Severity < primary infection
                                              1. Burning, paraesthesia, pain in area
                                              2. Recurrent intra-oral herpetic infection
                                                1. Crop of small ulcers
                                                  1. Keratinised mucosa
                                                    1. >10 in no.
                                                      1. 1-2mm in size
                                                      2. Diff. diagnosis = RAS
                                                        1. Can occur after palatal LA injection
                                                        2. Management
                                                          1. Acyclovir cream 5%, 4-6xday
                                                            1. Acyclovir oral if immunocompromised
                                                      3. Varicella-Zoster (3)
                                                        1. Chickenpox
                                                          1. Onset = children
                                                            1. Clinical features
                                                              1. Itchy rash
                                                                1. Papules -> vesicles -> pustules -> crusty erosions
                                                                  1. Begins on trunk -> centrifugal distribution
