Planning Focus Group

People
1. I will need minimum of 5 people and maximum of 7 to allow for there to be enough conversation but not so people are interrupting each other
2. The participants can't be doing A2 media as they know the purpose of my focus group and analyse parts that a typical consumer wouldn't
3. Each person will be provided with a pack containing a coloured pen, a prototype of the digipak, a copy of my advert and a piece of paper.
  1. I will encourage for around 5 minutes to write on each copy of the ancillary products to annotate what they think and dislike before discussing.
    1. These will be analysed after the focus group
  2. Each participant will have a different colour pen so I can distinguish who is who and whose I have
  3. The piece of paper for taking notes during the music video if they want
Questions (a brainstorm)
1. What genre do you associate with the digipak? (Ask before showing of the music video)
  1. If they answer singer songwriter then ask why
  2. If they answer another genre ask why
    1. Tell them it's singer songwriter and ask what they feel I could do to make the genre more prominent.
2. Would you purchase the digipak from looking at the ancillary products?
  1. I will ask this question before playing the music video so no other factors give away or affect their answers
3. Do you enjoy the music video?
  1. The purpose of the video is to entertain so I want to ensure I meet this purpose
4. What do you feel could be improved in the music video?
5. Looking at the digipak and advert do you feel that they go together?
  1. I've used two different images for the digipak and advert. Do you feel you would know the digipak from looking at the advert.
6. So you've paid £10 for the digipak. It includes CD of 12 tracks, thank you letter, booklet of lyrics and extra images. Do you feel like you've gotten your money's worth?
  1. £10 is the around the amount of the cost of a digipak.
  2. If no, what more information would you want to know or to be included?
Set Up
1. I will want my focus group to last around 15-20 minutes
2. I will record the whole focus group on camera
  1. I will be able to reference back to the focus group so I can access the points made whenever I need to.
3. I will need a screen to show my music video
  1. TV
  2. Laptop or Computer
    1. Could be too small
  3. Projector
4. I'll want a circle table so everyone can feel included and talk to each other easily
5. I'll want some privacy so no one will interrupt or so the participants won't be distracted.
