Reading Strategies for CAE

1. Part 1

   • Part 1 is about vocabulary with some grammar. You are given a text with some words missing - you must rebuild the text by choosing the correct word from a choice of 4.
   • Tips: Read texts in english, be sure your answer is the only one that fits, check what does it says after the missing word
   • Case Study: Don't waste time, read the text first and make a conclussion about what the topic is about, check that your answer make sense

2. Part 2

   • Tips: Just write one word, read the text first, there might be more than one correct answer
   • Learn about the exam, which are the most common words, tenses and phrases

3. Part 3

   • You need to read the text, know all the forms of word and know the position of the text
     • In this part, the nouns are the most common words, you need to know how to use them
       • You need to know how to use different grammar elements, such as: adjectives, determiners and more. Also you need to analyse if it is a positive or negative sentence

4. Part 4

   • Read with extremely precaution the instructions, also try to use between 3-6 words. Remember, never change the word, it is mandatory to use the one that is given
     • It is recommended to start the exam in this part and don't lose many time in it
       • You'll need to study all kinds of grammar, phrasal verbs, set phrases etc. Also remember the amount of words you are using

5. Part 5

   • Read extremely well the text, questions and answers. In addition of this, don't follow your opinion, you need to follow what the author of the text says
     • The best way to improve is reading different texts
       • You need to know that most of the options are traps, examine carefully the options. This part can take more time than the others, but you need to read well every option

6. Part 6

   • Even if the correct option seems pretty obvious, double check that it is, in this part there are many traps or questions that allude to a similar answer, be sure of choosing the correct one
     • You need to know the position of every author and what theri arguments are, by this way you can find the correct answer faster

7. Part 7

   • Remember, only one option fit the blank space, also pay attention to every clue that the text gives you.
     • Pay attention to the tenses of the sentences and try to fill them with the ones you already know are correct, leave the harder ones for the final

8. Part 8

   • You need to know the topic of the text to know what kind of words you are going to use
     • If something seem pretty obvious, probably is wrong, also, practice how to guess the meaning of the words
       • Take a practice test and practice how to guess the meaning of the words by their context
