                                                                1. Discipleship could involve you losing your life to get to the kingdom-martyr.
                                                                2. "anyone is ashamed of me...the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels.

                                                                    1. "What must I do to inherit eternal life?"
                                                                      1. "You know the commandments...all these I have kept since I was a boy"
                                                                        1. He has not broken any laws.

                                                                          1. It's not enough to just follow the rules you must be willing to make big sacrifices.
                                                                          2. "the man's face fell"

                                                                            1. How hard is it for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God?
                                                                              1. "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God."
                                                                                1. "Who then can be saved?"
                                                                                  1. "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."
                                                                                    1. Money can get in the way of a relationship with God. You need to rely on God's goodness.
                                                                                      1. Christians can learn that money shouldn't be the main focus in their lives, things are more important than money, should be humble and put others first and if they struggle they will be rewarded in the next life.
                                                                                      2. Rewards of the Kingdom
                                                                                        1. "no one who has left home... for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in the present age and in the age to come, eternal life."
                                                                                          1. "Many who are first will be last, and the last first."
                                                                                            1. If you are willing to give up everything you will be rewarded in the present and in the future. Given the greatest gift of eternal life.
                                                                                            2. Jesus' Teaching on Service
                                                                                              1. "whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all."
                                                                                                1. "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
                                                                                                  1. If you wish to follow Jesus you must be prepared to be a servant. If you serve you will become the greatest.
                                                                                                    1. Christians must be prepared to serve and shouldn't be concerned with power or status.
                                                                                                    2. The Greatest Commandments
                                                                                                      1. "Out of all the commandments, which is the most important?"
                                                                                                        1. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart."
                                                                                                          1. "Love your neighbour as yourself."
                                                                                                            1. A persons duty is to love God and this love would lead to love for fellow people.
                                                                                                            2. The Widow at the Treasurey
                                                                                                              1. "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasurey than all the others"
                                                                                                                1. "put in everything- all she had to live on."
                                                                                                                  1. Even though she was poor she gave up everything, she was not looking for praise like the rich.
                                                                                                                    1. Christians should give to charity to help, and give up their time and talents.
                                                                                                                    2. Parable of the Sower
                                                                                                                      1. "the seed"
                                                                                                                        1. The word of God
                                                                                                                        2. "eaten by the birds"
                                                                                                                          1. Listener does not respond or is tempted away by Satan.
                                                                                                                          2. "rocky ground...scorched my the sun and dies."
                                                                                                                            1. Listeners enthusiasm is killed of by persecution and other troubles.

                                                                                                                              1. Listeners response is stifled by materialism and worldly concerns.
                                                                                                                              2. "fertile ground produces a bumper harvest.
