    1. Emphasis on scientific investigation and understanding
      1. However, representation of mental disorders as diseases controversial
      2. The biological medical model
        1. Mental disorders are like physical disorders
          1. Assumes that all mental disorders are related to a change in the body
            1. Four possible factors for change: genes, biochemistry, neuroanatomy and viral infection
