Probability and Statistics

  1. Probability

    • Probability is the branch of mathematics concerning numerical descriptions of how likely an event is to occur, or how likely it is that a proposition is true. The probability of an event is a number between 0 and 1, where, roughly speaking, 0 indicates impossibility of the event and 1 indicates certainty
  2. Experiment

    • An experiment is a controlled study in which the researcher attempts to understand cause-and-effect relationships. The study is "controlled" in the sense that the researcher controls how subjects are assigned to groups and which treatments each group receives.
  3. Sample Space

    • In probability theory, the sample space (also called sample description space[1] or possibility space of an experiment or random trial is the set of all possible outcomes or results of that experiment.
  4. Event

    • An event is a subset of a sample space - one or more sample points .
  5. Mutually esclusive events

    • Two events are mutually exclusive if they cannot occur at the same time. Another word that means mutually exclusive is disjoint.
