1. Background

   • What is knowledge work?
     • post industrial vs industrial
       • industrial very expensive labour while post industrial very cheap
     • workers do less physical work and try think of a solution eg engienners
     • a new way of working using systems eg software for accountants

2. Value of knowledge work

   • more profitable in the long run once systems are installed and less employees are needed
     • many companies have followed pursuit in this switch as supernormal profits can be made

3. Managing Knowledge Work

   • must earn being treated as an asset
   • beneficial to learn about
   • workers must be able to identify the task

4. The 4th Industrial Revolution

   • Already upon us with the shift to more automated machines
     • firms use these machines to get competitive advantage on each other
   • will at first lead to unemployment
     • bad for the economy
   • worrying for upcoming graduates eg accountants

5. Knowledge employment

   • firms are hiring less employees as they can do work digitally with other systems
   • this will lead to economy problems
