Digital electronics
Analog vs digital
- Analog
- Electrical value that varies with physical quantity i.e. time
- Digital
- Only has discrete amplitude values
- Mainly binary values i.e two discrete amplitudes
- Advantages
- data can be transmitted, received, processed and stored more easily than analog signals,
- the logic values represented by a digital signal can still be determined after noise is added.
- Analog
Binary
- Bit
- a binary symbol that can assume values of 0 or 1(in binary notation).
- Other types of representation include: High/Low 1(one)/ 0 (zero) True/False
- Nibble/Byte/word
- Nibble is 4 bits Byte is 8 bits Word is 16 bits
- Positive vs negaive logic
- Positive Logic logic value 1 represents a high signal value logic value 0 represents a low signal value
- Negative Logic logic value 1 represents a low signal value logic value 0 represents a high signal value.
- Serial vs parallel transmision
- Serial in asingle line
- Parallel All at once
- Bit
