Computational Thinking
Decomposition
- The act of taking a problem and breaking it down into smaller more manageable parts.
- Solving a crime: Who where when why?
Abstraction
- The act of removing unnecessary details from a problem to simplify it.
- E.g The London Underground map. Do not need to know the speed of the train or type of train, just how to get there.
Pattern Recognition
- The process of identifying repeated elements to avoid solving the same problem more than once.
- Move up (2) Move down (3) etc.
Algorithms
- A set of step by step instructions to solve a problem.
- Abstructured english algorithm uses short, structured sentences to express the instructions.
- Flowcharts
- A flow chart is a type of diagram that can be used for an algorithm.
- It is made up of arrows and the shapes, terminator, process, decision.
