Rights and Responsibilities
Christians and the Bible
- The Bible is the Christian holy book
- Christians believe that the bible is God's word. They believe it is inspired by God and should be believed and obeyed and has authority.
- the Bible has lots of guidance on moral decisions like The Decalogue and The Sermon on The Mount
- Many Christians believe the Bible has authority as it helps Christians make moral decisions. Eg: do not murder. However lots of Christians have different views on the authority the Bible holds.
- Some Christians believe that the bible is 100% God's word- he dictated it to the author of the bible. it therefore has major authority
- Some Christians believe the bible is completely God's word, but our society is no longer Biblical, so we must interpret what it says and not take it literally.
- Some christians believe that the bible was dictated by God, but the author added his own ideas. They believe it was only inspired by God, so a lot of the Bible is the author's interpretations of God.
