Digital Solutions Assessment

  1. constraints

    • Time
      • We have limited time to complete the task
    • Knowledge
      • There are some gaps in knowledge that cannot be filled in the time frame of the assignment
        • This may not allow for me to complete some aspects of the assignment
    • Computer performance
      • The performance of the computer cannot keep up with some of the code
        • There is sometimes stutters in animation which cause the picture to not be smooth
        • The computer crashes sometimes when code is run slowing productivity
  2. reasorces

    • There is a plethora of recorces that can be used to my advantage
      • Arcade academy (arcade bible)
        • It contains instructions for every coding language that is needed for both of the folio tasks to be completed
      • Colour package website
        • This website allows for the use of the colour package inside of arcade by listing out all of the differant colour codes that are needed
      • The learnng place
        • This is a school run application that has links to many useful resorces inside of it
  3. Python and the arcade package

    • Python
      • It is a high level programming language
        • Is not going to be used inside of the coding
    • Arcade package
      • It is a package that can be impoted into thonny to bulid upon python to add certain arcade specific coding functions
        • There are colours and shapes that are in built inside of the arcade package and can be called apon to be used
        • The arcade package is easier to learn than other coding languages like python
        • Certain actions like animation and user input are also in bulit inside of the package
  4. Theme

    • Folio 1
      • An animated picture must be created
        • This will requre knowlege on animating and and darwing with the arcade package
    • Folio 2
      • A game with multiple componets must be created
        • This will require the knowledge of for for and while loops. A score also must be shown which will requre knowlege of text.
  5. Coding in the arcade package

    • There are many differant coding conventions that are relevant to the assessment
      • Animation
        • Animation inside of the arcade package is completed by using functions
          • It calls upon a specific function that inside of it has indented code. This code will contain instructions for drawing. It will also state by how far the drawing will move everytime the function is mentioned.
            • The frame rate of the animation is deterimned by how many times it will be drawn every second using a command.
            • If the number which states how many pixels the object will move is a negitive number it will move the opposite way than if it was positive
      • Drawing
        • Many differant simple geometric shapes can be drawn useing the package
          • Drawing circles
            • The code for the creation of a circle must be stated than the coordinates of the location and the radius. The colour must also be shown
              • arcade.draw_circle_filled(100, 350, 30, arcade.csscolor.DARK_GREEN)
          • Drawing ellipes
            • The code for a rectangele outline coordinates must be stated as the bounderies of the ellipes. Than an ellipes outline than is made inside of the rectangle .
              • Both the rectange and the ellipe outline are than filled in with code.
                • arcade.draw_rectangle_filled(200, 320, 20, 60, arcade.csscolor.SIENNA)
                • arcade.draw_ellipse_filled(200, 370, 60, 80, arcade.csscolor.DARK_GREEN)
              • arcade.draw_ellipse_outline(300, 300, 350, 200, arcade.csscolor.RED, 3)
              • arcade.draw_rectangle_outline(300, 300, 350, 200, arcade.csscolor.BLACK, 3)
          • Drawing rectangles
            • The code for the creation of a rectangle then the coordinates and the colour of the triangle must be stated
              • arcade.draw_lrtb_rectangle_filled(0, 599, 300, 0, arcade.csscolor.GREEN)
          • Drawing arks
            • The code for an ark is stated then the co-ordinites are inputed
              • arcade.draw_arc_filled(300, 340, 60, 100, arcade.csscolor.DARK_GREEN, 0, 180)
          • Drawing triangles
            • The code for drawing a triangle is stated, then the coordinates of the three points is put in.
              • arcade.draw_triangle_filled(400, 400, 370, 320, 430, 320, arcade.csscolor.DARK_GREEN)
          • Drawing polygons
            • The code for creating a polygon is expressed and then all of the nesserassy coordinates. The colour code is then added to the end of the bracket.
              • arcade.draw_polygon_filled(((500, 400), (480, 360), (470, 320), (530, 320), (520, 360) ), arcade.csscolor.DARK_GREEN)
          • Drawing lines
            • The code for drawing the line is erected and the coordintes for the start to finish of the line. Alternetively the thickness can be specifyed. The colour code is added to the back of the bracket
              • arcade.draw_line(500, 550, 400, 550, arcade.color.YELLOW, 3)
      • Colours
        • Through code, colours can be added to the backround.
          • Colour is added to the backround though first stating arcade function for the task to be iniciated. Then the colour is added by using the designated words from the colour package.
        • Colour can also be implemented into filled shapes
          • Arcade has a built-in package of colour that can be called upon though specific pre-deterimned code
      • Loops
        • For and while loops can be used to make objects appear is random places ot move is randon directions.
          • This is useful for making a star-like sky or random targets for a game
        • They can be used as a method of going back to certain parts of the code if a specific thing has occared
          • This can be useful with text and user input
      • positioning
        • The cartesian plane system is used
          • Each point on the cartition plane is a pixel. The positioning of the object is determined the size of the window
            • The objects can be positioned for 0 to the end of the screen on the x axis and the same can be done for the y axis
              • The coordinates of an object are placed onto the screen by specifing it at the end of its command
          • Only the upper right quadrant is used. There are no negitive positions.
      • User input
        • Keyboard controls
          • Movement using the keyboard can be specifyed to any key
            • Two things are needed for movement, Key relese and key press
              • These can be used to move the object in a direction at the speed of the global variable
        • Mouse clicks
          • Mouse clicks can be defined between left and right clicks
            • If the computer detects when these actions have occared it can tell the application to update something about the code.
        • Mouse movement
          • Mouse movement is completed by the computer knowing were the mouse is moving over the window
            • It uses this information to update the variables of the objects position 60 times a second to show movement with the mouse
  6. Pre- determined and self-determined criteria

    • Folio 1
      • Use blank lines to break up sections of code for improved readability
      • Use multiple colours
      • Use comments effectively
      • Animate at least one aspect of this drawing
      • Create a coherent picture
      • Use multiple types of graphic functions (eg. Circles, rectangles, lines)
      • Create three functions that draw something
    • Folio 2
      • Keep score of how many items were collected and display on screen
      • Do not allow the player sprite to go off-screen or through walls
      • Use for loops to create and position multiple items
      • Allow the user to control a player sprite using the mouse or keyboard
      • Add something for the user to collect eg. Coins
