1. Bipolar technique

   • IFC is mixed in generator and not on the skin
     • amplitude destruction and construction - therefore, it is "pre" modulated before it comes out of machine
   • only need 2 electrodes

2. Evidence based medicine

   • both TENS and IFC increased the heat pain threshold to a similar extent during stimulation
     • however, the post-stimulation effect on IFC lasted longer than that of TENS
   • a 2 week IFC (CF 4000Hz; beat = 65-95Hz; sensory)
     • shown significant short-term efficacy, when compared a massage/mobilization therapy
       • on self-perceived pain and functionality in subjects with chronic low back pain
   • needs to be greater than 30% of an MVIC to create hypertrophy
