Equilibrium & Feedback

  1. Equilibrium

  2. Equilibrium

    • Is the conditions of balance between the elements of a system. These describe if the balance is dynamic, static, stable or unstable.
      • Dynamic
        • Dynamic equilibrium also known as steady - state is a stable equilibrium that after facing and interference its able to to be steady again. An example of this state could be an open system in nature since the inputs and outputs get balanced after some time constantly.
      • Static
        • no inputs nor outputs, therefore it's not disturbed and in a steady state, so the system doesn't change. An example can be a pile of rocks that never gets touched or disturbed.
      • Stable
        • Is known as a system that after being disturbed goes back to its original balance. A possible example could be earths climate.
      • Unstable
        • Unstable equilibrium is present when instead of returning to its regular state after being disturbed it goes back to another state. A good example for this as well is earths climate.
  3. Feedback loop

    • When information from both the past and present contribute in affecting the same thing or things in the present or future. Theres two types: positive and negative.
      • Positive feedback loop
        • A system that goes through changes, reaching it's peak or limit adapting a new equilibrium. An example could be a rolling a snow ball on more snow for it to keep getting bigger.
      • Negative feedback loop
        • Negative systems maintain in a constant state, which means it reduces it's effects after changing to maintain a balance.Example could be a house with a heater and a window opened at the same time.
  4. Tipping point

    • A minimum interference that brings a system to an unstable balance or equilibrium
  5. Resilience

    • When a system has to deal with an issue or interference without losing control or function
