Tends to affect the dorsum/ dorsal trunk
Could use cellotape to diagnose. If difficult faecal flotation for mites.
Adults are visible to naked eye but normally see the walking dander in mouthparts. Eggs cemented to hair lead to salt and pepper appearance.
Spot- ons: selamectin, fipronil, imidaclopramid/permethrin or off-license ivermectin and treat environment.
Trombicula autumnalis
Otodectes
Can be diagnosed by analysing exudate or seen on otoscopic examination
Very contagious
Can survive 21 days off host
Can have temporary zoonosis
Normally affect ears, if skin: head, interscapular and tail base.
Topical preparation: thiabendazole, if 2o bacteria: antibiotics and GCs considered.
