warmth
- temperature
- the recommend temperature for a newborn baby is between 20-22 degrees celsius.
- if your baby is too hot or too cold, it can result in sudden infant syndrom (sids) also known as cot death
- to ensure that your child wont be too cold during the night you could put your baby in a special sleeping bag that allows the baby to stay warm without the risk of suffocating from a blanket
- you could use a cot that allows you to sleep with your baby at the same time as seen in the picture above
- temperature
clothing
- it is recommended to give your baby one extra layer of clothing than what its wearing.
- for example if your baby is wearing a t-shirt and jumper, dress them in a vest, sleepsuit and cardigan/jumper
- the responsibility of purchasing and laundering suitable clothing is a parental responsibility
food
- a new born child doesn't have teeth so cant digest solid foods, it is best recommended that new born babies drink their mothers breast milk or a suitable baby formula for the first six months
rest/sleep
- newborn babies need 17-22 hours of sleep per day and when they arent sleeping they are usually feeding, crying or exploring the world around
- parents will have to change their lifestyle to ensure a child gets enough sleep, meaning that they might have to cancel/change plans to make it fit with your childs sleep schedule
shelter
- providing a safe, warm and secure home is a parental responsibility that has to be paid for (rent/mortgage)
- you must also never leave your baby unattended, doing this may risk your child dying as they cannot provide for themselves
- it is also important that their are no trip hazards that could potentially trip or injure a parent/carer holding a baby, otherwise their is a risk of hurting yourself and the baby
