Arithmetic Progressions
SEQUENCE
- A group of numbers arranged in a definite order.
PROGRESSION
- When members of a series are in definite order, we get a progression and it follows a certain rule and has a specific formula to calculate its nᵗʰ term.
ARITHMETIC PROGRESSIONS
- Arithmetic Progression is a sequence in which each term is obtained by adding a constant number to the preceding term.
GENERAL TERM
- When last term is given
- Let the AP be l, l-d, l-2d, ..... It's general term is given by
- When first term is given
- nᵗʰ term of the AP is
- When last term is given
SUM OF n TERMS
- Sum of first n terms of an AP is given by
MEAN (or ARITHMETIC MEAN)
- A.M. between a and b is (a+b)/2
TERMS
- COMMON DIFFERENCE: Difference between two successive terms of an AP is called common difference (d).
- FIRST TERM: The first term is represented as a of an AP.
SELECTION FOR MORE THAN 2 TERMS
