2. Intrusive Rocks- when magma intrudes into another rock

   • Dike- vertical magma intrusion
   • Sill- horizontal magma intrusion
   • Batholith- large intrusion extending deep into crust
   • Laccolith- injected between 2 layers of sedimentary rock

3. Extrusive Rocks- when molten material reaches the surface

   • Lava Flows
     • Pahoehoe- rope-like
     • AA- rough, rocky flow
     • texture depends on chemistry

4. Volcanoes

   • Shield- wide, has vent
   • Composite- effusive, explosive
   • Cinder Cone- explosive
   • Super-volcanoes - largest on Earth; Yellowstone
