Data Validation for the Database

1. Validation rules

   • Email
     • Symbols required for this input type
       • All emails have the @ symbol after the main line of user changeable text
         • This symbol should be required for input
     • Letter/length requirements
       • After the symbol of @ is placed in the email, there is always a specific ending that is provided by a tech company, such as @gmail.com and @yahoo.com
         • All of the major platforms that provide email service should be persued for these specific endings, and should be used as email validation
   • Password
     • Letter/length requirements
       • For a password, there should be a minimum letter requirement to ensure that the user has inputted something that meets a minimum of security
         • In most website, there is usually a common minimum password length of 8 characters which should be used for email validation
     • Symbols required for this input type
       • To ensure that a minimum of security is met by the user, many website have a reccomended special character that must be added to the password by the user
         • This same feature should become a validation rule in the CRUD application, in addition to the minimum character count
     • For the passwords specificlly, there should be a requirement to input the password into a field twice, to allow for more security
   • Username
     • Letter/length requirements
       • The username does not require a minimum length, due to the security requirements not being required
     • Symbols required for this input type
       • As less security is required for this type of submission, no symbols should be required to submit into the database

2. Possible error messages

   • If the two passwords inputted are not the same
     • "Passwords do not match"
   • If the amount of characters and symbol requirements are not met
     • "The ____ does not meet the minimum requirements needed to be submitted. It must include _______"
