Chapter 3: Decimals

  1. Numbers to the left of the decimal point are whole numbers. The numbers to the right of a decimal point have different values.

  2. When asked to round to the nearest specified value, you must determine where that value is, and look to the number to the right of it. If that number is between 0-4, the number doesn't change. If the number is between 5-9, the current number increases by one.

  3. When converting a mixed number to a decimal, the whole number doesn't change, only the fraction gets changed into a decimal by dividing the numerator by the denominator.

  4. When converting a decimal into a fraction, the number that is behind the decimal point, will go over the a 1 on a fraction. count how many numbers are behind the decimal, you will add that many 0's behind the 1on the denominator.

  5. When adding and subtracting decimals, you must line up the decimal point vertically then continue to add and subtract.

  6. When multiplying decimals, multiply as normal, then count the decimal point values, and move your decimal from the right to the left the number of decimal values needed.

  7. When dividing decimals, you must make the divisor a whole number and move the decimal on the divisor and the dividend.
