144 resources created by 95 users

This Decimals page on GoConqr gathers community-made quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes, from place value and comparing decimals to rounding, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. It's built for primary pupils and school students practising decimal work, and for teachers after ready-made material. There are over 130 resources here, including more than 50 quizzes, over 40 mind maps and more than 20 flashcard decks. Pick an operation, try a quiz to find your gaps, then revisit the maps.

What the Decimals resources cover

This unit sits in the Number strand of Mathematics. Most of it is quizzes and mind maps, with flashcard decks, notes and a slide set alongside. The topics follow the order most learners meet them: place value, comparing, rounding, then the four operations.

  • Place value and comparing: the Decimals L1 mind map looks at tenths, hundredths and thousandths, and the Comparing Decimals map says to line up the decimal points and compare digits from the left.
  • Rounding: the Rounding Decimals mind map explains how to underline the digit you are rounding and check the digit to its right.
  • Operations: there are maps for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, including Multiplying Decimals By Powers Of Ten and Dividing Decimals By Decimals.
  • Fractions: the Changing Fractions To Decimals mind map and flashcard deck show how to divide the denominator into the numerator.

Where to start

Begin with a mind map for the skill you want, such as Decimals L1 for place value. Read it through once, then move to a quiz on the same skill.

The quizzes come in lettered sets, A, B and C, for adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and comparing. There are also pre-tests and bonus quizzes. A pre-test is a sensible first check before you work through the lettered sets.

Using quizzes and maps together

  1. Read the map for one operation, for example Subtracting Decimals, which reminds you to line up the points and add zeros.
  2. Take a pre-test on that operation.
  3. Note the questions you missed and go back to the map.
  4. Try the A, B and C quizzes in turn.

For word problems, the 5.NBT.7 Assessment mixes sums and differences with short real-life questions, such as distances hiked. The Bonus Question on Dividing Decimals uses a wire-cutting problem.

For teachers

Teachers can set a quiz after a lesson or share a map as a revision sheet. The Maths - Multiplying and Dividing Decimals slide set is there for classroom use.

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I open first?

Start with a mind map on the skill you need. Decimals L1 suits place value, while Comparing Decimals and Rounding Decimals each cover one skill. Then take the matching pre-test quiz, such as the one on adding decimals, to see which steps need more practice.

What do the mind maps cover?

They cover place value, comparing, rounding, converting fractions to decimals and all four operations. Some go into detail, such as Multiplying Decimals By Powers Of Ten and Dividing Decimals By Whole Numbers. Each sets out the method in short steps you can follow while working through quizzes.

Are the resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource on this page is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself, so styles and levels vary. Check the title and a quick look inside to see if it suits you.

Who are these resources for?

Most are aimed at primary pupils, with a good share for school students, and a few go further. Teachers can use them as ready-made practice or revision material. The quizzes range from simple sums to short word problems about measures and money.

Are there quizzes for each operation?

Yes. There are lettered A, B and C quizzes for adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and comparing, plus pre-tests and bonus quizzes. There are also quizzes on rounding and on decimals and models, so you can practise one skill at a time.

What if I can't find the topic I need?

Try a nearby resource first, such as a mind map on the same operation, or the flashcard decks on key terms. If a gap remains, you can make your own quiz, map or flashcards with a free account and keep them for later.
