IP Address
An IP Address is a unique value assigned to every computer on a network, used to identify it.
Messages on a network have an IP address attached, which is how a computer knows whether or not to keep the message.
Computers on a network also need an address to identify them.
When a computer is added to a network it is assigned an IP Address (Internet Protocol Address).
The IP Address is unique value assigned to each computer on a network.
Each IP address on a network must be unique.
Networks
- Types of Networks
- Bus
- Ring
- star
- Topology
- Bus Topology is cheap and easy install but messages could collide and if the cable brakes then the whole network is down.
- Ring Topology is also cheap to install and messages don’t collide meaning a faster Network But if the cable breaks the whole server is down.
- Star Topology is fast and stops messages colliding and if one cable breaks the rest of the Network will still be up but is costly to install and a new cable has to be placed for every new computer as well as if the main server in the centre breaks the whole Network is down.
- Topology is the arrangement of computers and other elements of Network.
