It is a non-threaded head bit used to join two or more parts. The deformation operation is performed hot or cold, and uses constant hammering or pressure. Once placed, it cannot be removed, unless one of the heads breaks (Permanent - Semi-permanent). They are fasteners that are widely used to obtain a permanent mechanically fastened joint. It offers high production speeds, simplicity, reliability and low cost.
Rivet Application Tools and Methods. 1. By impact. A pneumatic hammer makes successive blows to stress the rivet. 2. Uniform compression. A riveter provides constant pressure to drive the rivet. 3. Combination of Impact and Compression. Most of the equipment used to apply rivets is portable and manually operated, and now there are automatic machines that drill (prepare the hole) and riveter (Insert and Stress).
Eyelets (Eyes). They are thin-walled tubular fasteners with a flange at one end, and are usually made of sheet metal. They are used to produce a permanent butted joint between two (or more) flat parts. They are replaced with rivets in applications with low tension requirements to save material and costs.
Threaded Fasteners. They represent the most important category of mechanical assembly. They are all those separate components of the equipment that have external or internal threads for the assembly of parts. They generally allow disassembly.
Interference Settings. There are several methods of assembly that are based on interference mechanics between two coincident parts that are they are going to unite Interference is what keeps put these parts together.
Stitching, Stapled and Sewn. Industrial nailing and stapling are similar operations that use U-shaped metal fasteners. Nailing is a machine that produces (individually) U-shaped nails from steel wire and immediately inserts them through the two parts to be joined.
What is a blind rivet? They are called blind rivets because they allow a blind joint, that is, the joint when only the external face of one of the pieces is accessible. It is a cheap joining method, automatable and with more aesthetic finishes than with screwed joints. They are also known as pop rivets, because of the "POP" sound the rivet makes when it breaks the mandrel in the body.
