Evidence for working model

  1. Dual Task Method

    • Baddeley and Hitch asked participants to perform a sentence checking task while simultaneously reading aloud a six digit number. If digit span is supposed to be the maximum capacity of STM participants would of show impaired performance but they didn't. They found very few errors but the sentence checking was slower than normal.
  2. Visuo-spatial Sketchpad

    • Baddeley et al. did an experiment where they had participants do two tasks simultaneously. The first task was a visual tracking test, the second task was either describing the angles of a 3D shape or a verbal task. when the task was using both visual they were both competing for the limited resources.
  3. Articulatory Loop

    • Baddeley et al. did an experiment called word length effect, which he learnt that [epeople recall shorter words better than longer words, this is because the articulatory loop is two seconds long so more short words can be fitted into the loop.
