2. Data Structures

   • JSON
     • Written as name/value pairs (aka key/value pairs).
     • Uses keys - must be strings, written with double quotes.
     • Array values must be of type string, number, object, array, boolean or null.
   • XML
     • XML documents are formed as element trees. An XML tree starts at a root element and branches from the root to child elements.

4. Digital methods of exchanging data

   • JSON
     • Translations
       • JSON can very easily be translated into JavaScript.
         • JavaScript can be used to make HTML in your web pages.
       • CSS may easily be expressed in JSON notation
     • Advantages
       • JSON is shorter, quicker to read and write and can use arrays. It also can be parsed and used by lots of programming languages,
       • JSON is parsed into a ready-to-use JavaScript object.
   • XML
     • Disadvantages
       • XML is much more difficult to parse
       • XML is longer, harder to read and write and slower overall.

5. Data Exchange Protocols

   • REST
     • A set of principles that define how Web standards, such as HTTP and URIs, are supposed to be used
       • HTTP is a protocol for fetching resources such as HTML documents. It is the foundation of any data exchange on the Web.
     • Principles include uniform Interface, Client-sever, Stateless, Cacheable and Layered system.
       • If an application follows all six principles they can be evaluated as RESTful
