  1. who are the new right?
    1. Its mainly conservative traditions and mainly involves freedom of the people.
      1. In 1942 the Beveridge report was created arose as a criticism of the welfare state.
        1. This was very influential in 1980-90s under Thatcher and Reagan
        2. Statistics
          1. The traditional family households of married couples with dependent children has fallen from 52% down to 37%.
            1. Only 1/4 of children lived with only one parent, usually the mother.
            2. The Golden age of the family
              1. The new right is a traditional nuclear family.
                1. The reason why the 'social structure' has several problems is due to the decline of both traditional family values and structure.
                  1. These problems are mainly crime, high spending on welfare benefits, educational underachievement and the 'under class'
                  2. Ideology of the family
                    1. The ideology of the family is a set of ideas what makes the ideal family.
                      1. They include: traditional nuclear family, clear sexual division of labour and women as mothers in the home.
                      2. Evaluation
                        1. These views are often more political that sociological and are not backed by empirical evidence.
                          1. Not addressing the real cause which is inequality in society and blames single-parent families.
                            1. There is no evidence of the golden age.
                              1. Evidence in history shows that family break down, crime, poverty, domestic violence and lone-parenting is not new.
                                1. According to feminist the family gives the women a source of oppression.
                                  1. Families can lead to upset such as 'the dark side' side of the family such as domestic violence etc.
