      • Devices include many distractions for children trying to learn. For example, timers, rewards, socializing, music, advertisements, and hacks
    • Technology should help motivate students
    • Technology should help students transition from passive to active learners
    • Students excitement to work with technology does not mean they are engaged in learning the content
    • Social interactions should be a part of using technology in the classroom
      • Provide opportunities for students to communicate about what they are doing on their devices before, during, and after tasks

    • Myths
      • The more technology used, the more students learn

      • Find software that provides specific and descriptive written and audio feedback to help students learn what they are doing wrong
      • Teachers must determine if to meet the learning goal the technology should assist students in designing, editing, constructing, etc to ensure it is actually helping students
    • Technology should add value that traditional tools were unable to do
      • Teachers shouldn't be replaced by technology, but instead technology should provide more opportunities for students to learn from others
      • Teachers should ask themselves if value is being added by comparing two lessons, one with technology and one without and seeing if the technology will help students visualize the information better
  3. Extension

    • Myths
      • Technology replaces teachers and be just as effective
    • Technology should be available often, so that students can use it to learn outside of the school day
      • When students can use the same technology and/or software in and out of the classroom, their learning can transfer from the classroom to the real world
    • Technology should bridge school with everyday life experiences
      • When learning is related to a students' own experiences, they are more likely to understand and retain the information
      • Students are better able to build understanding when experiencing real-world problem-solving activities
    • Technology should build on a students background/prior knowledge
      • Using the knowledge that students already have, teachers can help to build more and deeper understanding for skills that students will need in their everyday lives
