Year 9- Item
Algorithm Constructs
- Iteration
- Iteration is used when something is repeated, when the program is continuously running in a loop
- Selection & Condition
- A selection statement uses a condition o select which line of the program will be used next
- IF the distance is less than 10 cm, stop the robot.
- A selection statement uses a condition o select which line of the program will be used next
- Sequence
- Sequence refers to a set of instructions that are processed one after the other
- Making cereal: put cereal in bowl. add milk to cereal.
- Sequence refers to a set of instructions that are processed one after the other
- Assignment
- Assignment stores a value inside a variable so the program can use or change it later.
- studentName= "Raahi"
- Assignment stores a value inside a variable so the program can use or change it later.

Planned Response/ Routes
- Rockfall Challenge
- The robot will be required to follow the black path towards the exit. When it reaches the fallen rock blocking the path, the robot must detect the rock and move it out of the way. Once the path is clear, the robot must return to the black path, continue following it, and successfully reach the exit.
- Poison Ivy Challenge
- The robot will be required to follow the black path towards the exit. When it reaches the poison ivy hedge blocking the path, the robot must detect the obstacle and navigate around it without touching it. After passing the hedge, the robot must return to the black path, continue following it, and successfully reach the exit.
- This is the chosen challenge

- Rockfall Challenge
Task Requirements
- Prescribed Criteria
- Follow a safe path to the exit.
- Use colour sensor to follow line
- Set speeds to a slower level so that the colour can be detected
- Use sensor to identify any dangers or obstacles.
- Use distance sensor to identify obstacles before contact
- Reach the exit using sensors without touching the hedge
- Use sensor(s) to avoid or manoeuvre any dangers or obstacles.
- Respond when the hedge has been detected
- Travel around the hedge using movement motors, using
- Complete a room-specific challenge.
- Follow a safe path to the exit.
- Self-determined Criteria
- Display a smiley face when a different colour is detected
- Use the colour sensor to detect other colours
- Set the display to a certain shape so that when the colour is detected the display is right
- Display a sad face when obstacle is detected
- Use the distance sensor to detect whether the obstacle is nearby
- Make sure that the correct statement is used so that when the object is detected the display will also correspond to it.
- Set the display to show a certain shape when the object is detected nearby.
- Display a smiley face when a different colour is detected

Code Constructs
- IF statement
- An IF statement checks a condition and only runs certain code when that condition is true.
- IF distance sensor is closer than 10cm, stop
- An IF statement checks a condition and only runs certain code when that condition is true.
- FOR loop
- A FOR loop repeats a section of code a set number of times.
- FOR 4 times --> move forward 20 cm
- A FOR loop repeats a section of code a set number of times.
- WHILE loop
- A WHILE loop keeps repeating instructions as long as a condition is true.
- WHILE the distance sensor detects no obstacle, keep moving forward.
- A WHILE loop keeps repeating instructions as long as a condition is true.
- Variables
- A variable stores information that can be used or changed while the program is running.
- IF ELSE statements
- An IF-ELSE statement allows the robot to choose between two actions depending on whether a condition is true or false.
- IF an object is less than 10 cm away, stop; ELSE, keep moving forward.
- An IF-ELSE statement allows the robot to choose between two actions depending on whether a condition is true or false.
- Arrays
- An array stores multiple pieces of information together in one place. This makes it easier for problems to be solved through the code. Also it requires human made reinforcements to shape the idea
- IF statement
Spike Prime Robot
- Distance Sensor
- The Distance Sensor measures how far away an object is without touching it. It helps the robot avoid obstacles or stop before it crashes into something.
- Movement Motors
- The Motor is used to move the robot's wheels. It can go forwards or backwards and can be programmed to move a specific distance or angle.
- Colour Sensor
- The Colour Sensor detects different colours and measures light. It can be used to help the robot follow a line or react to different coloured objects.
- Touch Sensor
- The Touch Sensor detects when it is pressed or released and can measure how hard it is being pushed. It is often used to tell the robot when it has interacted with something.
