Year 9 - Item 1

  1. Alg Constructs

    • Iteration
      • An iteration is the repetition of a process to get closer to a desired result, or a new version of something that builds on a previous design
        • "The computer program ran five iterations before finding the correct answer."
    • Assignment
      • An assignment in an algorithm is the process of storing a specific value inside a variable. It sets or updates the data that the computer tracks, usually written with an arrow (←) or an equals sign (=).
        • An assignment in an algorithm sets or updates the value of a variable. It evaluates the expression on the right side and stores that result into the variable name on the left side.
    • Selection & Condition
      • Selection is a fundamental programming construct that allows an algorithm to choose between different execution paths based on whether a condition is true or false.
        • In an algorithm, a selection construct allows the program to choose between different execution paths based on whether a specific condition evaluates to true or false.
    • Sequence
      • A sequence in an algorithm is the specific, line-by-line order in which instructions are executed—from top to bottom.
        • n an algorithm, a sequence is the fundamental construct where statements or instructions execute one after another in a strict, top-to-bottom order.
  2. Spike Prime Robot

    • Disance Sensor
      • A distance sensor is a device that measures the physical gap or space between itself and a target object
    • Motors
      • motor can mean a machine that makes things move, a word for a car, a description for body movement, or an action meaning to drive.
    • The light Matrix
      • In electronics, a light matrix is a grid of individual light bulbs arranged in neat rows and columns.
    • Colour Sensor
      • A colour sensor is an electronic device that detects and identifies the colour of an object or surface by measuring the light reflected from it.
    • Touch sensor
      • A touch sensor is an electronic component that detects physical contact or near proximity from an object
    • Gyro sensor
      • A gyro sensor is a tiny electronic component that measures how fast something is spinning or tilting.
  3. Planned Response

    • Rockfall Challenge
      • Follow the black path through the room to the exit. But beware, a hedge covered in poison ivy is blocking part of the path.
        • Navigate around the hedge and back onto the black path.
    • Poison Ivy Challenge
      • Follow the black path through the room to the exit. But beware, a heavy rock has fallen from an archway and is blocking part of the path. Move the rock from the path!
        • Clear the rock out of the way and then return to the path
    • I Chose the Poision Ivy Challenge
  4. Code Constructs

    • FOR Loop
      • A for loop is a control flow statement used to repeatedly execute a block of code a specific number of times.
        • A for loop is a programming construct used to repeat a block of code a specific number of times.
    • IF statement
      • If the rule is true, the computer runs a specific block of code. If the rule is false, the computer skips that code or runs a different block.
        • if statement is a conditional construct used in programming to execute a specific block of code only when a defined condition is true.
  5. Task Requirements

    • Prescribed Criteria
      • Follow a path to the exit
        • Using the Colour Sensor to detect the black lineUsing the Colour Sensor to detect the black line to start moving along the line to start moving along the line
        • Using the Movement Motors to move along the path
      • Use sensor to identify any dangers or obstacles
        • Using the Touch Sensor to detect obstacles
        • Using the Distance Sensor to detect obstacles
      • Use sensor(s) to avoid or manoeure any danger or obstacles
        • Using the Movement Motors to navigate through the maze
      • Complete a room-specific challenge.
        • Using the Rockfall challenge to push the obstacle out of the way
        • Using the Poison Ivy challenge to get around the obstacle
    • Self-Determined Criteria
      • Make a smiley face throughout the map
        • Use Light code to produce smiley faces throughout the map
