Biometrics
- Definition
- Biometrics authentication is used in computer science as a form of identification and access control. It is also used to identify individuals in groups that are under surveillance.
- Purpose
- The basic premise of biometric authentication is that everyone is unique and an individual can be identified by his or her intrinsic physical or behavioral traits.
- Advantages
- It is difficult to forge, it is also more accurate and there will less chance for human error. Another good thing about using biometrics for identificaiton is that modern systems are built and designed to be easy and safe to use.
- Disadvantages
- Misusage of personal information will happen if this device is used. It is expensive to implement. The system could also malfunction
- Two main characteristics
- Behavioral characteristics: The behavior of a person.
- Physiological characteristics: The shape or composition of the body.

OCR
- Definition
- OCR is a fields of research in pattern recognition, artificial intelligence and computer vision
- OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition
- Made and Use of OCR
- Its primary use is to convert printed materials into text or word processing files that can be easilly edited and stores
- Its made a huge impact on the way information is stored, shared and edited.
- Disadvantages
- Forms can jam in the machine as they fed through
- It forms have been incorrectly filled in they cannot be read propely.
- Advantages
- Extremely fast way of inputting information into a computer.
- Can save money as there is no need to employs workers to enter form information into a computer.

Clock in Cards
- Advantages
- Employees who punch a time clock have a clear sense of when their work day begins and when it ends. An employer cannot fairly ask an employee for extra help before he has punched in or after he has punched out, and an employee who punches out for his lunch hour can refer to his time card if his employer asks for extra help during this time.
- Disadvantages
- The requirement to punch a time clock creates a workplace atmosphere based on objective verification rather than fundamental trust .Employees are required to punch a time clock are likely to believe that their employers do not trust them to accurately report their hours, and consequently they may feel that they are not sufficiently valued.
- Definition
- A card on which the periods an employee has worked are recorded by a time clock
- Advantages
OMR
- What dose it stand for?
- Optical Mark Reader
- Definition
- System that automatically reads marks made in pencil or pen. It is usually used to read multiple choice examinations whew students shade in the answers that they think are correct.
- Advantages
- There is a large number of document to justify designing and printing them
- Uses
- To scanning of media to detect the presence or absence of mark in specific position
- Disadvantages
- The person putting the marks on the document has to follow the instruction
- What dose it stand for?
Sensors
- Definition
- A sensor is an object whose purpose is to detect events or changes in its environment, and then provide a corresponding output.
- Uses
- Sensors are used to measure physical quantities such as temperature, light, pressure, sound, and humidity. They send signals to the processor.
- Advantages
- Reading taken using sensors are more accurate than those taken by humans. Sensors can monitor information constantly. Sensors can respond to information immediately
- Disadvantages
- Faulty sensors can give incorrect results. A Sensor Network may require a lot of additional wiring to be installed around the house to allow sensors to work - unless the sensors used are wireless. Using wireless makes sensor devices much more expensive.
