Vectors

  1. What are Vectors?

    • Vectors is a way of describing how to get from one point to another
    • They are usually written as two numbers and look like a fraction
      • The top number signifies how far left or right to go the bottom number is how far up or down
        • Top number positive goes right, negative goes left
        • Bottom number positive goes up, negative goes down
  2. Magnitude of Vectors

    • Draw a right angled triangle using the line
    • Then use Pythagoras to work out the size of the vector
  3. Adding Vectors

    • When you get two or more vectors that you need to add all you do is add the top parts together and the same with the bottom parts
    • Subtracting Vectors
      • To subtract a vector all you need to do is add the negative of the vector
  4. Multiplying Vectors

    • Multiply the top and the bottom of the vector by whatever number is provided
  5. Vectors in Geometery

    • Describing the route of a vector to a point
    • if it goes the opposite way in which the arrow is pointing it is minus and if it is going in that direction it is positive
