   • spreadsheets are useful for calculations and to do this a worksheet is set up with data and formulae
   • if any of the data in the cells of this is changed the spreadsheet will automatic perform a recalculation using all the related formulae

4. sorting rows and columns

   • spreadsheets can sometimes be used as flat file type database
   • in a database it is a key feature to be able to sort data

5. graph and chart creation

   • spreadsheet software allows for numerical information to be presented in a variety of graphs and charts

     • line graph
     • scatter graph

   • the power of spreadsheets is that yo can use the formulae on the cells

7. functions

   • there are many functions in a spreadsheet software such as SUM, MAX ,MIN and AVERAGE

8. absolute cell referance

   • when a formula is copied from one cell to another there may be a need to maintain an absolute reference to the original cell. this can be achieved by referencing a cell as $A$1 when copied it will remain $A$1
