Drawbacks of hosting a Major sporting event

Hosting the Major sporting event
1. If things go wrong with the planning and organisation then the whole world could be left crticising and making fun of the event.
2. it can increase the risk of terrorist attacks, so huge amounts of money and massive security operations need to be put in place to guarantee safety.
Divisions
1. This is where 2 different cities want to host the event in the same country
2. For example for the 2012 olympics the 2 cities in the uk who were wanting to host the olympics were London and Manchester
Major event of one sport
1. For example if one sport has a major event like wimbledon for tennis, this means that tennis will have a increase in participation because it is televised.
  1. This meant that Badminton and table tennis that are similar to tennis get a decrease in participation because it is less shown on tv.
Sports facilities
1. The stadium or event could no longer be used and is left to rot because no one is using the facilities.
Cost of event
1. Organising the comittees need to find the funds to cover the preparation before any money starts to be recouped.
2. Sometimes the money that is made from hosting the event does not cover the costs of hosting it in the first place, leaving the country/town in debt because of it.
Bidding to host
1. it is very expensive to bid a major event because you may not get awarded to host the event.
2. For example, they might have to bid for the next olympics
