SQL statements

1. used to ask question in the database

   • method of asking questions, way of retrieving certain kind of data
     • allows you to create query and manipulate database

2. The select statement

   • selecting some data
     • selects a field from a given table

3. using a wild card

   • using an asterix
     • it selects all the columns
       • to pull up everything that you've got

4. The 'where' clause

   • used to extract only the records satisfying a specific criterion
     • operators in the WHERE clause: = <> > < >= <=
       • you can use these in SQL queries
