About SQL and Procedural SQL

GoConqr Original

What the resources cover

The unit runs from first queries to advanced topics. Basics sit in the quiz Retrieving Data Using the SQL SELECT Statement, its matching mind map and the note Select statement. Data definition is covered by DDL Syntax, CONSTRAINTS and CHECK CONSTRAINTS mind maps. Data changes appear in Manipulating Data (Section 3), where a question tests whether TRUNCATE TABLE is valid on its own.

Further up, CHAPTER 8: ADVANCED SQL and Chapter 8 (True/False) look at joins, subqueries and set operators such as UNION, INTERSECT and MINUS. All Questions tests CUBE and GROUPING functions. For the procedural side, look at the mind map Cursor and the notes on cursors in PL/SQL.

Where to start

If SQL is new to you, begin with Introduction to SQL and the SQL Flashcards deck. Then move to SQL joins and the mind maps on joins and single-row functions. Once those feel comfortable, try Structured Query Language (SQL) (Section 1), which also touches on turning an ERD into a relational database.

Preparing for Oracle exams

Several quizzes are aimed at Oracle certification. OCA 1Z0-071 12C - Parte 2 uses exhibits, such as a PROMOTIONS table, and asks you to read a table structure before answering. Oracle SQL Expert Certification - Part II includes questions on ALTER TABLE with SET UNUSED. Older papers are here too, including a 1Z0-061 quiz and a 1Z0-047 quiz. Use 364 Practice Questions for wider practice.

Using quizzes and maps together

Take a quiz first, cold. Note the questions you miss, then open the mind map or flashcards on that topic and read them through. Retake the quiz a day later. Teachers can pull a quiz such as Chapter 7 (True/False) straight into a lesson, or use the slide sets for explanation.

Where it fits

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I try first?

Start with the quiz Introduction to SQL or the SQL Flashcards deck if you are new. If you already know the basics, Retrieving Data Using the SQL SELECT Statement is a good checkpoint before you move on to joins, subqueries and the advanced quizzes.

Which Oracle exams do the resources mention?

The listed resources mention Oracle 1Z0-071, 1Z0-061 and 1Z0-047, as well as Oracle SQL certification in general. Examples include the OCA 1Z0-071 12C quiz, a 1Z0-061 quiz and a 1Z0-047 quiz with questions from a chapter on the exam.

Do the resources cover procedural SQL as well as queries?

Yes. Alongside the many SQL query quizzes, you will find a Cursor mind map, notes on cursors and record cursor FOR loops in PL/SQL, and a mind map on protecting Oracle PL/SQL source code from a DBA user. The procedural material is smaller than the query material.

Are the resources free, and who made them?

Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you create your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes.

Which database systems are included?

Most material is general SQL or Oracle SQL, but you will also find a MySQL mind map with data types, a MySQL Database Management System quiz, an MSSQL flashcard deck and an SQL Server deck. Choose the one that matches the system you are studying.

Who is this page for?

It mainly suits university students and professional candidates, for example those working through course chapters or Oracle practice papers. Teachers can use the quizzes, slide sets and notes as ready-made material, and a few resources may also help school students.
